Moderator & Panelist

Born in Laredo, Texas, Matthew VerMilyea earned his Bachelor of Science degree at Cornell University in Animal Science, Cum Laude with Distinction in Research, and the nickname ‘Tex’.

Tex received his PhD in Epigenetics from The University of Birmingham. He completed his first post-doctoral fellowship in the chromatin and gene expression laboratories at the Institute of Biomedical Research in Birmingham, UK. He completed a second fellowship in the Laboratory of Mammalian Molecular Embryology at the RIKEN institute in Kobe, Japan.

He returned to the United States as an embryologist at Shady Grove Fertility in Maryland. He then became the Director of Assisted Reproductive Technologies and Andrology laboratories at The University of Pennsylvania Fertility Care. From there, Tex moved to Auckland to serve as Scientific Director at Fertility Associates of New Zealand.

 After 17 years, Tex was recruited to return to Texas as the Scientific Director of Texas Fertility Centers. He is currently the Vice President of Scientific Advancement for Ovation Fertility and remains the Laboratory and Operations Director of Ovation’s Austin and San Antonio IVF laboratories. Matthew remains active on multiple professional committees and scientific advisory boards.

Bormann Charles 991Charles Bormann, PhD, HCLD

Charles Bormann is Director of IVF Laboratory at Massachusetts General Hospital. Previously he was Associate Director of Assisted Reproductive Technology Laboratory (2012 - 2015) at Brigham & Women’s Hospital and Director of Assisted Reproductive Technology Laboratory (2008 - 2012) at the University of Wisconsin. Charles obtained his BSc from Iowa State University in 1999; his MSc and PhD in Reproductive Physiology were obtained from University of Connecticut in 2004 and 2005, after which he spent 4 years as a Research Fellow at University of Michigan.

Charles is the member of ASRM and ESHRE, past president of SRBT, Executive Board Member of New England Fertility Society, and Chair of Laboratory Director Committee of SART. He is an Ad Hoc Reviewer for numerous peer-reviewed journals, such as Fertility & Sterility and Human Reproduction, and a member of the editorial board of The Journal of Clinical Embryology. He has presented as an invited lecturer at 40+ national and international level symposia. His publications include peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and clinical guidelines.

Ashok Agarwal 2013Ashok Agarwal, PhD

Ashok Agarwal, PhD, HCLD (ABB), ELD (ACE) is the Head of Andrology Center and Director of Research at the American Center for Reproductive Medicine since 1993. He holds these positions at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, where he is a Professor of Surgery (Urology) at the Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University.

Ashok was trained in Male Infertility and Andrology at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School and later worked as an Assistant Professor of Urology at Harvard from 1988 to 1992. Ashok has over 28 years of experience in directing busy male infertility diagnostic facilities and fertility preservation services.

He is very well published and is ranked in Scopus as the #1 author in the world in the fields of Male Infertility/ Andrology and Human Assisted Reproduction, based on over 805 peer-reviewed publications, citation scores of >37,739, and h-index of 104. He is currently an editor of over 42 medical text books/ manuals related to male infertility, ART, fertility preservation, DNA damage and antioxidants and active in basic and clinical research.

His laboratory has trained over 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students, reproductive professionals, embryologist, researchers, clinicians, from the United States and more than 100 countries. This includes about 2,000 participants who attended the three online Andrology and ART training courses organized by Ashok though his Center since Nov 2020.

His current research interests include proteomics of male infertility and the molecular markers of oxidative stress, DNA integrity in the pathophysiology of male reproduction
