ZILOS-tk Laser Modes

The ZILOS-tk operates in two modes: Clinical and Validation. Both modes are Class 1 laser compliant.

  • Clinical Mode offers preset laser pulse durations for use with all embryos
  • Validation Mode is used for increased control over laser settings for validating laser only (not for use with human embryos)

Selection of the Laser Mode is made easily through the Setup-Laser window. Simply select the radio button and save the settings. The Laser Energy control panel options change depending on which mode is activated.

Clinical Mode

When ZILOS-tk is in Clinical Mode, the laser operates at three user-defined pulse durations: Low, Medium, and High. The user may choose the exact pulse length to assign to each level (see chart below). Acoustic feedback is also provided upon firing of the laser.

Setting
Min. Pulse Time
Max. Pulse Time
# Firings per 15 seconds
LOW

200 µs

MEDIUM

HIGH

For increased safety, Clinical Mode features an automatic 15-second window in which the laser must be fired. If the laser is not fired within this time frame (as indicated by the yellow timer bar), the laser is automatically deactivated. Depending on the active setting the laser may be fired multiple times during this 15-second interval without need of reactivating the laser. In order to maintain Class 1 status, the number of times the laser may be fired is dependent on the pulse length used (see chart above).

Validation Mode (not for use with human embryos)

When ZILOS-tk is in Validation Mode, the user can adjust the time during which the pulse fires, called pulse duration. The laser is automatically set to 100% power. Pulse duration can be set between 1 microsecond to 3000 microseconds. The resolution of the slider may also be adjusted to either 1, 10, or 100 microseconds; this determines how much the value of the pulse changes when the slider bar is moved.

Validation Mode also allows adjustment of the power level of the laser, from 1% to 100%. and lets you set the pulse slider resolution to 1, 10, or 100 microsecond increments.
