XYClone is for non-clinical research use only in USA. hESC research using the XYClone should be conducted in accordance with any applicable Federal, State or local laws and regulations.
Please Note: The XYClone is for use ONLY with ANIMAL and STEM CELL APPLICATIONS. (For Clinical Laser Assisted Hatching and Biopsy applications, please see the ZILOS-tk.)
Applications of the XYClone Laser
Transgenic Animal Production
The XYClone laser may be used in numerous embryo micomanipluation applications for creation of transgenic animals, including balstocyst injection, 8-cell injection, and IVF.
Gene Targeting, Knock Out Mice (read more)
"The XYClone laser system combines outstanding precision and ease of use for injecting ES cells into 8-cell stage embryos allowing us to obtain high yields of fully ES cell-derived newborn mice."
Thomas DeChiara, Ph.D., Sr. Director of Transgenic Technology & Research Animal Facility, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
IVF (read more)
Laser-assisted ICSI using the XYClone consistently acieved successful fertilization (up to 44% reported) utlilizing thawed sperm that yielded 0% fertilization via conventional IVF. It has also shown to significantly increase the fertilization rate of known low fertilization sperm/oocyte combinations.
Kathy Mohr, Facilities Director, Mutant Mouse Regional Resource Center, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
Inner Cell Mass Isolation (read more)
"In addition to providing the benefit of a xeno-genic free environment, the XYClone laser has transformed my ICM isolation for ES cell derivation into a simple, efficient, and reliable technique which greatly enhances my research productivity."
Walid Maalouf, Ph.D., Research Fellow, University of Edinburg, UK
Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer and Enucleation (read more)
"Following installtion of the XYClone laser objective, we have been able to speed the process of enucleation to a matter of seconds, without eliciting damage to the egg. We have been very impressed by how it has dramatically improved enucleation efficiency and reduced the lysis rates of eggs."
Vanessa Hall, Ph.D, Postdoctoral Researcher, Lund University
Laser-Assisted Hatching (read more)
"Using the Xyclone system has shown significant improvements in bovine embryo viability post-thaw, as well as improved pregnancy rates following transfer of in vitro produced bovine embryos. The laser is simple to set up and easy to use, making it ideal for research and commercial applications alike. The versatility of the unit allows us to use it successfully in a variety of assisted reproduction applications in the laboratory and on the road doing field work."
Charles P. Long, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Texas A&M University
Developmental Biology - Selective Laser Ablation (read more)
The XYClone is gaining popularity in the field of Developmental Biology for its ability to selectively ablate cells in organisms such as flatworms, Crepidula fornicata, and C. elegans. The XYClone system was recently used in a 6-week embryology course held at the Marine Biology Lab at Woods Hole (Summer 2009).
